Attending Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Gina got into performing early in life. She started singing as a child, later training in opera and jazz, as well as performing in a gospel choir. While she applied and was accepted to several colleges, she could not afford to attend. This later spurred her to go forth with pursuing a career in acting.
She appeared in The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), where she would meet her to-be husband, Laurence Fishburne. She also performed in films like Jam (2006), I Think I Love My Wife (2007), South of Pico (2007), and Selah and the Spades (2019).
