Julia Garner is an American actress and model known for her roles in films such as Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014), and so on. She also appeared in the Netflix original series Ozark (2017) and the television series The Americans (2013).
She was born in the Bronx to an artist father and a therapist mother, the latter having had a successful career as a comedian in Israel. Julia has an older sister, Anna, who is a writer, producer, and artist. She obviously took from her parents as she went on to take acting lessons at 15 in an effort to overcome her shyness and made her theater debut at 17.
In 2012, she was invited by director David Chase to play a small role in Not Fade Away. She then got her first starring role in Electrick Children later that year. She continued acting while still studying for her psychology degree, graduating in 2015.
She cites Italian actress Monica Vitti and legendary Hollywood actress Bette Davis, especially the latter’s performance in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, as the main influences for her acting style.
