Rufus Sewell is an English actor who is best known for his roles in theater, film and television. He appeared in television series such as Victoria and The Man in the High Castle, the latter of which he was praised for his performance as John Smith, an American who later became a high-ranking Nazi officer.
He was born in Hammersmith to a Welsh artist mother and an Anglo-Australian animator father. They divorced when Rufus was five. His mother worked in a pub and sold vegetables to raise him and his brother Caspar, while his father passed away while Rufus was ten.

He then attended Orleans Park School, then West Thames College, wherein a drama teacher recommended him to audition for drama school. He later enrolled at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.
He made his London Stage debut in Making It Better, in which his performance won him the “Best Newcomer Award.” He would be nominated for an Olivier Award, act on Broadway, and start getting film roles.
